Configuring a Dial-up connection for Windows XP

Click the Start button, then click Control Panel.

In the list of categories, double-click the Network and Internet Connections icon.

Under the list of tasks, click the Set up or change your Internet Connection icon.

Under the "Connections" tab of the Internet Properties window, click the Setup button.

The New Connection Wizard will start. Click the Next button.

Click the radio button labeled Connect to the Internet.

Then click the Next button.

Click the radio button labeled Set up my connection manually.

Then click the Next button.

Click the radio button labeled Connect using a dial-up modem.

Then click the Next button.

In the "ISP Name" box, enter a label for this
dial-up account (so you can distinguish it from any other dial-up accounts you may want to create).

Then click the Next button.

In the "Phone number" box, enter the dial-up access phone number for your location (refer to the support home page for a list of dial-up access numbers).

Click the radio button labeled My use only.

Then click the Next button.

In the "User name" box, enter your Gallatin River username.

In the "Password" and "Confirm password" boxes, enter your Gallatin River password.

If the checkbox labeled Make this the default Internet connection is not greyed-out, and if you would like this connection to be your main (default) dial-up connection, put a check in the box.

Then click the Next button.

If you would like to put an icon for this dial-up connection on your desktop, put a check in the box labeled Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.

Then click the Finish button to return to the Internet Properties window.

Back on the Internet Properties window, you should see your new
dial-up connection listed as "Gallatin River Dial-up Account" (or whatever you named it). If you would like to make it your main (default) connection, click the icon for that connection, then click the Set Default button.

Click the radio button labeled "Dial whenever a network connection is not present". This will cause Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, and other Internet programs to automatically connect to the Internet using the connection you have set as the default.
